2012-12-22 Ecos ND 15 - International Conference on Composite Materials

On December 12th, Umicore Specialty Materials Brugge participated in the XXI International Conference on Composite Materials, organized by the Centro Español de Plásticos in Barcelona.  In this attractive setting, Umicore’s Sales Manager Wim Cambien gave a presentation on cobalt, cobalt carboxylates and Ecos ND15.

2012-03-14  Umicore's innovative cobalt technology offers alternative to existing curing accelerators

Materials technology producer Umicore and Reichhold, a global supplier of unsaturated polyester resins, announced their collaboration to introduce a sustainable alternative curing technology for unsaturated polyester resins.

These resins are used in building & construction applications (profiles, anchors, casting applications), transportation (automotive parts), marine & general water protection (bathtubs), wind energy (wind turbine blades) and others sorts of industrial applications. .

2010-10-15  Cobalt bis (2-ethylhexanoate) - REACh registration

We want to provide you with an update on the status of REACh registration for cobalt bis (2-ethylhexanoate) with CAS 136-52-7 and EINECS 205-250-6. On the basis of recent ecotox data generated by the cobalt REACh consortium it was decided to classify the substance as R50/53. With an annual volume exceeding 100 tpy this compound must be REACh registered by December 2010, while originally (at the time of pre-registration) the deadline for registration was determined at June 2013.

2010-07-02  Cobalt compounds - CLP notification and REACh registration

We want to provide you with an update on the status of CLP notification and REACh registration for cobalt compounds The cobalt REACh consortium (CoRC) steering group approved on Wednesday 23th June hazard classification for physicochemical, environmental and human health endpoints. lt did so for all cobalt substances on the working Iist and classifications are now available on the CoRC website.

2010-01-21  Cobalt driers and their hazard classification

The future hazard classification of cobalt driers has recently been subject to much debate. We refer to the information bulletin released by CEPE on 10 November 2009 and to the information spread by OMG stating that it is probable that cobalt octoate and cobalt neodecanoate will be classified as Category 1B carcinogens at the end of 2010, which would mean that the use of these cobalt substances in preparations sold to the public is limited to concentrations smaller than 0,01% which is too low to be effective. This information, released by CEPE and OMG, is incorrect!

The company Corn Van Loocke was taken over November 17 2007 by a Belgian multinational Umicore. Since January 1st 2008 a full implementation has been going on. the name changed into USMB (Umicore Specialty Materials Brugge). Umicore is fully supporting and further investing in the complete and wide product range of the old “Corn Van Loocke).
